Day 6:
Good evening,
Calendar: Today’s calendar was led
by Ahaan. Great job Ahaan!
Reading Buddies: Today, each student was
paired with a grade 5 students from Mrs. Khan’s class. Students practiced
shared reading with the grade 5s. They enjoyed the time spend reading stories
with their reading buddies.
French: Please
see Mlle. Jessica’s blog for more information.
Phonics: Today, the students were introduced to the “A/a”
sounds, action and song. We watched a video, “Geraldine learns the “a” sound”
and brainstormed words with the “A/a” sound on the board. Then students got to
make an S or A out of play-dough.
Lunch/ Recess 1
Math: Today, students looked at five frame math. I
displayed a five-frame on the board and showed students how to use it to
represent numbers from 1-5. I demonstrated different variations of each number
several times explaining that one dot can only be in one square at a time. It
doesn’t matter where the dots are in each box, if there are blank boxes between
some dots, or if there are dots at the end or beginning of the five-frame. The students were asked what they can tell about 3 from looking at the
five frame. The students understood that it is 2 away from 5 (2 spaces left). I
continued this process with other numbers up to 4. Then, we investigated how
they would show numbers bigger than 5. They learned to put the rest outside the
five-frame. The students worked collaboratively to complete a page in their
Math Workbooks.
Unit of Inquiry: Today, students reviewed the
process of wheat. We watched a video called, “Farm to market – Wheat” where
students watched how wheat is grown, harvested and processed into flour. I
presented the steps on the whiteboard for students to see. We then finished our
Wheat to Cereal colouring books.
Lunch/ Recess 2
Gym: Please see Mrs. Jans’ blog for more
information.
